HHS and its regional offices work to coordinate fatherhood activities throughout the states and have sponsored a variety of forums to bring together local public and private organizations and individuals to support fathers' involvement in their families and communities.

Alabama activities:
Access and Visitation –
Alabama provides an advisory group to coordinate agency and interest groups for the discussion of access and visitation issues to point the way for improved programs and policies including custody and visitation statutes. They will also train judges and staff on access and visitation issues.

The program operates four pilot projects on mediation and parental education for a primarily unwed population in rural and urban settings.

The purpose of the Individual and Family Support program is to assist Alabama residents with developmental disabilities and their families with flexible supports to eligible people and their families.
