Paulette Moore
Writer/Producer
Paulette Moore is an award-winning producer/director/writer with
17 years of experience in television documentaries and news. She
produced, directed and wrote more than 15 hours of programming for
Discovery and The Learning Channel including the popular aviation
documentary series Wings and a two-hour special on law enforcement
entitled Behind the Badge.
In 1991 92, Moore was a correspondent and editor based in
Tokyo reporting Asian news and feature stories for the PBS/NHK co-production
Asia Now. Moore began her career covering political news
from Washington, DC and as a freelance producer/writer worked with
a variety of clients including ABC News, Entertainment Tonight,
Australian Broadcasting, Reuters Television, Christian Science Monitor
Radio and Capital.com.
Moore received her BA in Journalism/Political Science from State
University of New York College at Buffalo in 1986. Her interests
are rowing, reading and rock tumbling and she lives in Arlington,
Virginia.
Pauline Steinhorn
Writer/Producer
Pauline Steinhorn began her career 20 years ago as a producer/editor
for CNN. She went on to work for PBS on public affairs programs
including The MacNeil-Lehrer Report (precursor to The
News Hour), and Washington Week in Review; and childrens
programs, including Childrens Television Workshops Sesame
Street and 3-2-1 Contact.
Once she became a mother, Pauline limited her broadcast work to
public service commercials and an annual PBS Labor Day Special,
one of which won her an Emmy for public affairs programming. Now
that her children are both in school and needing less help with
their homework, Pauline is back on track. She produced the Hewlett-Packard
and Boston Law segments of Juggling Work and Family.
Gary Guggolz
Segment / Field Producer
Gary Guggolz produced the historical segment of Juggling Work
and Family, and also field produced the 1199 and Baxter segments
of the program.
Prior to coming to Hedrick Smith Productions, he served as Producer
or Associate Producer for three documentaries for The Learning Channel,
including the Emmy-nominated Great Books: All Quiet on the Western
Front.
Guggolz spent eight years at Discovery Communications, where he
held a variety of production-related jobs including program editing,
program re-versioning and multimedia production. He has also lived
and worked in Asia while serving as a Senior Manager in the programming
department of Discovery Channels regional headquarters in
Singapore.
Guggolz is a graduate of the University of Virginia and lives in
Arlington, Virginia.
Jenny Smith
Field Producer/Researcher
Jenny Smith served as researcher and Field Producer for Juggling
Work and Family. Smith did the principal research for the project
proposal, organized a pre-production seminar with experts in the
field, wrote story summaries for publicity and outreach, compiled
data and resources on this subject, and assisted with the development
of the website. During the process of working on this documentary
she had her first child and learned first hand the juggling act
that working parents face.
Jenny Smith served as Associate Producer on several other projects
with Hedrick Smith Productions including Seeking Solutions,
Surviving the Bottom Line, and three news segments for The
NewsHour with Jim Lehrer.
Smith has also written several books, including the childrens
book, A Spark in the Dark, as well as the childrens
story featured on the CD and cassette, A People with One Heart,
by Mike Pinder of the Moody Blues. She co-author of a collection
of stories about death and dying which will be published in December
2001.
Jenny received a masters degree in the field of psychology from
J.F.K. University and a Bachelors degree from Boston College.
Jeanette Woods
Field Producer
Jeanette Woods has worked in PBS programming for the past ten years.
She began her career as a film researcher at WGBH, Boston, earning
credits on such series as Peoples Century, A Science Odyssey
and NOVA. Prior to her work at HSP, she associate produced Hopes
on the Horizon: Africa in the 1990s at Blackside, Inc.
Jeanette Woods joined HSP on last years Emmy-nominated Critical
Condition, as associate producer of the uninsured
segment and most recently field produced the Silicon Valley segment
of Juggling Work and Family.
Ms. Woods is a graduate of the Annenberg School of Communication
at the University of Pennsylvania and holds a masters degree in
film production from Boston University.
