South Carolina Educational Television (SCETV) is the broadcast
and outreach partner with Hedrick Smith Productions for Seeking Solutions, as it has been on four other PBS
productions.
South Carolina ETV acts as the presenting station for the Seeking Solutions broadcast to the nationwide PBS system. It hosted the staging one of three town halls for the production. And its outreach department was responsible for putting together the Community Action Guide for Seeking Solutions, which is available on this web page as well as to community groups throughout the country. Hedrick Smith Productions and SCETV have formed a highly effective partnership on four PBS documentary and educational projects in the past - the most recent being the four-hour series, Surviving The Bottom Line (see www.pbs.org/bottomline) and an earlier four-hour series, The People and the Power Game (see www.pbs.org/powergame). In addition to their collaborations with Hedrick Smith, South Carolina ETV has worked extensively with other PBS heavyweights like Bill Moyers and sponsored well-known series such as Firing Line with William Buckley.South Carolina ETV is a station with a unique character. As a state-financed institution, South Carolina ETV's responsibilities for public education are written into its charter. Its deep commitment to using television as a vibrant educational tool is reflected in the range of strategies it pursues to reach students through distance learning, public education facilities, community colleges and individual self-teaching efforts. Over its distinguished history, South Carolina ETV has developed a reputation for its close working relationships with other stations and its ability to create innovative links within the occasionally fractious PBS community.
