Developmental Research and Programs (DRP) was founded in 1984 to translate current research findings into programs and services for promoting the healthy development of children and families in communities. To combat gang-related graffiti, the city and county of Yakima teamed together to create the Graffiti Bustsers program, an intergovernmental and interagency program which uses inmate work groups to cover graffiti. Work crews are sent within 48 hours of notice to cover the graffiti using recycled paint and supplies. Crews are also used by the city to clean up litter and provide basic landscaping labor.

Preparing for the Drug Free Years is a program for parents of children in grades 4 through 8 and seeks to reduce drug abuse and behavioral problems in adolescents by increasing parents skills to reduce risks that could contribute to drug abuse. PDFY is designed for use before children begin experimenting with drugs.
