Surveys are used as a principal component of the COPPS program to help the police analyze the public's perception of crime and violence and to develop collaborative responses to citizens' concerns. The Gang Alternative Program is a consortium of public and private organizations whose goal is to deter minority and disadvantaged youths from illegal gang activity. They work in collaboration with other local programs to provide job skills training, job placement, instill cultural awareness, teach cultural diversity, and provide recreational opportunities.
