The Brooklyn Park Crime Prevention Association and the Police Department facilitate a police/citizen crime prevention partnership by holding training to help residents prevent crime at home and in their neighborhoods. They also hold the National Night Out party that wins awards for the community each year. The neighborhood gatherings are visited by McGruff, police officers, fire engines, community organizations, school district representatives, school bands, the mayor, council members and city staff. Through National Night Out, people have had the opportunity to meet city officials, police officers, community leaders, business leaders and other members of the community. |

Based on the results of two state-wide surveys -- one of higher education courses pertaining to violence and the other of professionals regarding the adequacy of their training -- the Minnesota State Legislature funded the creation of the Minnesota Center Against Violence and Abuse. The initial purpose of the Center was to better prepare college graduates to respond to issues of violence. The Center continues to work toward these goals through its Violence Education Project, and now houses three additional projects that also support the mission of the Center...to support education, research, and access to information about violence.
The Minnesota Center Against Violence & Abuse operates this Electronic Clearinghouse via the World Wide Web with access to thousands of interactive discussion groups, newsgroups and Web sites around the world. The goal of the Clearinghouse is to provide a quick and user friendly access point to the extensive electronic resources on the topic of violence and abuse available through the Internet. |
