In October of 1975, Act 872 passed both houses of the Alabama Legislature creating and establishing the Alabama Criminal Justice Information Center (ACJIC) which is commissioned to collect, store, retrieve, analyze, and disseminate criminal justice data. They are an excellent source for research and statistical crime information about the state.

The fundamental mission of the national CAPT system is to bring research to practice. The CAPT system is designed to work with States and local communities, policymakers and local leaders, agencies and task forces to apply the science-based prevention technology that works. This group works in Alabama, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virgin Islands, and Virginia.

The Southern Poverty Law Center is a non-profit organization that combats hate, intolerance, and discrimination through education and litigation. Its programs include Teaching Tolerance and the Intelligence Project, which incorporates Klanwatch and the Militia Task Force. The Center also sponsors the Civil Rights Memorial which celebrates the memory of 40 individuals who died during the Civil Rights Movement.
