The Oklahoma Department of Health provides consultation, information, and diagnostic and treatment services through programs in local health departments and through its central office. The Health Education and Information Service maintains a film library and maintains and distributes a comprehensive library of pamphlets, booklets, and brochures. This service also prepares public service announcements and news releases on Department services and health problems and implements campaigns against health problems. The Information and Referral line answers questions relating to health and provides referrals to the proper agencies and resources; it also administers the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System. Other programs include Maternal and Child Health Service; Dental Service; Occupational health, domiciliary facilities inspections, chronic disease, and emergency medical care. |

The "Cherokee Rural Health Network" refers collectively to those IHS-funded facilities located within the 7,000 square mile Tribal Jurisdictional Service Area where Indian people can access basic health service. Presently, this includes: six tribally managed outpatient clinics and a mobile health unit; two IHS managed hospitals which also have outpatient service; an EMS facility operated by the tribe which provides ambulance service to Cherokee County (location of tribal headquarters) and a variety of courses for training emergency personnel; a tribally managed, 20-bed co-educational facility for treatment of chemical dependency in Indian adolescents;and, a number of field-service sites maintained by the tribe in addition to the clinics for auxiliary health programs such as WIC, Early Cancer Detection and Health Promotion/Disease Prevention education and outreach. |
