The Health Claims Arbitration Office, (HCAO) provides a system of mandatory filings for all medical malpractice claims in excess of the current jurisdictional amount. The Health Claims Arbitration Office was created by the Health Claims Malpractice Act, enacted by the Legislature in 1976. Since this date, HCAO has handled in excess of 9,672 medical malpractice claims for the State of Maryland. |
