Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center provides education, research, patient care services and community outreach. LSU Medical Center encompasses six professional schools - the School of Medicine in New Orleans, the School of Medicine in Shreveport, the School of Graduate Studies in New Orleans and Shreveport, the School of Nursing, the School of Dentistry, and the School of Allied Health Professions in New Orleans and Shreveport.
The mission of the Office of Public Health is: to promote health through education that emphasizes the importance of individual responsibility for health and wellness; to enforce regulations that protect the environment and to investigate health hazards in the community; to collect and distribute information vital to informed decision-making on matters related to individual, community, and environmental health; to provide leadership for the prevention and control of disease, injury, and disability in the State to assure universal access to essential health services.

North Louisiana Area Health Education Center (NLAHEC) is a non-profit organization. Our primary goal is to bring healthcare education and resources to rural and undeserved communities throughout North Louisiana. Through community based initiatives, we implement programs designed to improve the health status of citizens, increase the supply and distribution of healthcare professionals, as well as, provide outreach to promote health care resources to the rural and undeserved areas throughout our twenty-one parishes.
